10 things on the 10th

10 things that make me go Hmmmmm……

And by hmmmm I mean a resounding eye-roll and long sigh….. (at the very least)

1. Paperwork

2. Phone calls to banks and insurance companies

3. Phone calls from telemarketers

4. Sick kids

5. Gastro

6. Colds and flu

7. Back pain

8. Interrupted sleep

9. Another month that has gone by, with the 10th coming way to fast.

Will edition

1. Do you have a will?

2. If you don’t, go and organise it.

3. Now. Please?

4. The last 7 months and 10 days have been made exponentially more difficult because we didn’t have a will.

5. I now have a will. It had been on our “to do” list for a couple of years.

6. In the most awful time of my life, a will would have simplified things so much. I’m still dealing with the paperwork around Frith’s final pay from Qld Health (which would have been paid directly to me, had there been a will.)

7. Make sure your family has a will.

8. Hopefully it will just sit there for decades, and not be needed in your youth. But for your family’s sake, make it easier for them.

9. Make it a goal for before New Years Day 2019, to have your will in order.

10. Thank you.

10 things on the 10th

Random edition – somewhat of an answer to last month

1.  I’m looking at houses for sale in Deagon and Brighton

2. The cortisone injection I got in my shoulder a week ago has not been the cure-all I was hoping for, though not nearly as painful as a month ago

3. Still haven’t done a weights session, but have gone on a couple of (short) walks. Baby steps…

4. The kids and I are heading to Gympie for the night on Wednesday to stay with friends and I can’t WAIT!!

5. I finally got around to seeing Thor: Ragnarok last night (the kids were all asleep by 8:30pm so I thought “why not!!”) and I loved it! Such fun.

6. Weaning Jules is going well, though the sleep interruptions are still pretty brutal

7. We are off to see Incredibles 2 at the movies tomorrow

8. Chance has had tonsillitis (viral) for a week and it sucks

9. I want to put some more photo books together for the kids but just don’t have the emotional energy to go through the photos

10. The numbness and shock are really wearing off, and our new life is definitely getting real

That is all.

10 things on the 10th

10 things currently on my mind

1. Which suburb to live in. I’m not used to not having boundaries. I could literally live anywhere I want.

2. The extremely painful bursitis in my shoulder.

3. The fact that I haven’t done a weights session in over two months.

4. My new car! (Blog post to come.)

5. My new bed! I’m no longer sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

6. Weaning Julius. My last baby and counting down to my last feed.

7. How to get words out of my head and onto paper.

8. The recent high profile suicides. What can we do?

9. How grateful I am to be living on the water. It’s very good for my troubled soul.

10. My blog turns 10 on the 1st of July and I don’t know how to celebrate.

That is all.

10 things on the 10th

Things that Frith never got to do. Some of them I might put on my to do list…

1. Go to PAX Prime – We went to many a PAX Aus, but Frith was always drawn to where it all began, in Seattle. We were making plans to go in the next few years as a family, and make a trip out of it with a medical conference or course as well.

2. Live in Canada – I was a bit unsure about this one, but was prepared to go over for a year, once Frith was fully qualified.

3. Do a TED Talk – I even bought him a book about how to deliver a TED Talk, such was my belief that he could do it one day. Choosing the topic would have been the hardest part.

4. Work in Antarctica – back in Wangaratta while he was studying, he attended a conference, and the keynote speaker at the conference dinner (I was very pregnant with Chance there!) was a recruiter for Doctors in Antarctica. As we were listening, I was watching Frith’s eyes light up. I told him he could definitely do it once the kids were a bit older.

5. Sail from Brisbane to Cairns and Cairns to Cape York – he read Jesse Martin’s story about sailing his hobie cat up the Queensland coast with his dad when he was a kid. Frith always wanted to do that, and we even started talking about the logistics and support crew at one stage.

6. Live in Perth – even visit Perth! Even though he’d never been, he used to tell people how awesome it was (it is!) and that he wanted to live there one day.

7. Have a 5th baby – he was chasing that prime number. (Note: I shan’t be adding this to me “to do” list 😉 )

8. Watch Rain Man and Jerry Maquire – two of my favourite movies that I would quote often, and after years of hearing my quotes, he started using them too, even though he had never seen the movies.

9. Be around for Incredibles 2 – I just saw that this is being released, and the first Incredibles movie was always one of his favourites. It will be bitter sweet watching that one with the kids.

10. Have a huge kick-arse man shed of his own – he was always hopeful, whenever we moved house, but it never eventuated. The rental I found for us in Toowoomba had a reasonable sized shed, and I know he was looking forward to using it if we’d been successful getting that house.

There are so many more things he will never get to see or do, but we will do our best to see and do them for him.

10 things on the 10th

10 of my favourite things (in no particular order. Except maybe # 1 & 2…)

1. Red wine – Cab Sav or a bold Barossa Shiraz if you don’t mind.

2. Dark chocolate – 70-80%

3. A good book, and having the time to read it – I’m trying to start a new book at the moment and it’s not really happening for me. Hmph.

4. A sleep in – I don’t do afternoon naps, I do sleep-ins. Getting out of bed once a day is enough for me.

5. A well made coffee – Pair this with a nice view and 20 minutes of peace (bahahahaha) to enjoy both, and I’m a happy woman.

6. A good weights work out. I miss my fit mums but have found somewhere to sweat it out down here.

7. Silence.

8. Fast Internet – this was always a high priority whenever we moved house, and I got very used to it!

9. Looking at photos – I (generally) love how Google photos sends me a “this day 1 or 2 or 4 years ago” album a couple of times a week. Obviously some of those photos are hard to look at but they are treasured memories.

10. Blogging. 10 years in July and I’m still here. Loving it, and this year it has been such an important outlet for me.

10 things on the 10th

10 things I never got to tell/ask Frith

1. That his best mate bought a Kia family car. I knew Frith would have given him so much curry over it and it would have been hilarious.

2. That he was enough. Right there and then. That he was enough.

3. I never got to share my awesome password that I made up for my main password list that is the MOTHER of all awesome passwords.

4. That I would have done anything to make him happy. If I could have.

5. That his mate and I had talked about sending him on this awesome medical camping trip in Tasmania this year.

6. I would have asked him if there was anything he thought he might like to do differently in our life.

7. That the school the kids now attend is “allergy aware” instead of “nut free”.

8. That we could have had a simple life and been perfectly happy.

9. I would have told him to be a teacher for a few years. Like an actual teacher in a school.

10. Could I have ever thought to ask him if he had ever ever thought about ending his life? I don’t know.

These are not regrets, or things that keep me up at night. Some of these things do weigh on my mind a little, but I’m trying not to feel regret over them. It’s just how it is.

10 things on the 10th

Random edition.

1. I have internet. I may never surface again. I have a to-do list of about a hundred things, mostly fun stuff, and it’s nice to be back online. I have been on my laptop a lot the last two evenings and it’s bliss.

2. I’ve been unpacking and settling in. There’s still a lot in boxes but we have the essentials and we are doing okay.

3. I am grateful for many things in my life right now. The kids like school, the walk to and from school is gorgeous, and my kids get to see their grandparents a lot more, just to name a few things.

4. I have SO many emails and messages to catch up on. I know there’s no pressure to, but I want to.

5. I had lunch at the new precinct at Chermside shopping centre. Holy moly! I didn’t even know they were building that, let alone that it was complete! Crazy!

6. I have been very kindly given a few massage vouchers and have started cashing them in. Thank you so so much.

7. Our house in Rocky is finished and ready to be rented. I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

8. I’m drinking a bit too much a bit too often. Not to excess per se, just need a few more regular alcohol free days and weekends.

9. Even though I haven’t been able to make it to the mum fit classes down here, I do have a plan to start some PT sessions and continue with my walks to and from school.

10. Mum and Dad’s house is amazing. The view is stunning, the breeze is incredible, the space is lovely, the company is perfect, the feel is homely. I can’t quite say I feel like I’m “at home” but I’m as close as I possibly can be in my current circumstances. And that is definitely something to be thankful for.

10 things on the 10th

10 things I miss about Frith

1. His smile. It’s the first thing anyone ever noticed about him. That and his awesome dreads.

2. His laugh. It was sometimes a high pitched girly giggle. It was all him.

3. Watching him give the kids a hug.

4. Being able to text him when something stupid and funny happens.

5. Being able to make a face at him when something stupid or funny happens.

6. Being able to ask him why my phone is playing up knowing he could fix it.

7. His smell. I wish I could breathe it in right now.

8. His inappropriateness. Yes even that.

9. His kisses. Knowing I will never kiss him again is almost too much to bear right now.

10. Just him.

I love you honey. I’ll never again hold you in my arms but I will always hold you in my heart ❤
