Chanbe’s birthday party

We headed down to Townsville last weekend for Chance’s 3rd birthday party and had such a great time. We had a bit of a “pirate party” theme happening and Hubs really got into the dressing up, courtesy of op-shop bargain hunting by me, and pirate Chanbe looked pretty cute too.

Here’s the cake I made – I was really happy with how it turned out!

And Chanbe was pretty happy too…
Aaaaargh matey. T’was a great daaaaaay!

Chanbe turned 3 today

My dear Chance
I love you, son. You make my heart soar. Your smile, your laugh, your cheekiness, your manners, your selective hearing at bedtime, your cuddles. You are my firstborn and you will always hold a special place in my heart that belongs only to you. Happy Birthday my sweet Chanbe-Boo.

Ingham chicken love ’em

So it turns out Ingham Chickens aren’t from Ingham. It was rather a disappointment to me, if I were to be completely honest. One that I got over very quickly, but I realised I had been making the Ingham chicken love ’em joke for a little while and well, don’t I look sheepish.

Moving on.

We have internet!! Obviously. This makes me very happy. Except we don’t have much internet. We have gone from 200GB of ADSL a month to 3GB of wireless. It’s not pretty. I have a lot of reading to catch up on my feedly account, but I don’t want to blow our data limit!!

Ingham is great. The trip here went well – I drove the land cruiser towing our dodgy trailer (Hubs calls it “agricultural”…) with the red baron on top (see below) while he drove the kombi. We both made it with no trouble. The house they (the hospital) have provided for us is really lovely. I was a bit disappointed when they told us they didn’t have one of the lovely new roomy units available for us, and that they were putting us up in the older house, but as soon as we walked in the door, we knew we’d love it here.

We’ve just been settling in, albeit quickly, going to church the day after we arrived, and having someone over for dinner already, plus our friends came to stay for the weekend! The kids have been a bit sick on and off since we arrived, and Chanbe has been somewhat displaced and a bit challenging, but we are doing well.

We are heading down to T’ville for the weekend for Chanbe’s 3rd birthday party which Mum and Dad are coming up for, and then they are coming to stay here next week which will be lovely.

As usual, I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story!!

Let’s hit the road!

Chanbe was very keen to get to “Eeam” as he calls it.

The first few days were somewhat challenging.
(FYI those books were on the shelf behind him about a minute before I took this photo…)

Chanbe has seriously been into his play-dough since we arrived. How do you like my strawberry??

This is our living room. We removed the TV on day one, just to eliminate temptation…

 My clever little munchkin!

We try and eat our afternoon tea outside in the shade while we wait for Dadda to come home. Sometimes we wait a long time and then give up 🙂

 Gotta love watermelon season!

My poor little monkeys have been sick the last few days. Chanbe actually fell asleep on the couch!!

Not that you would know he’s sick most of the time…

So that’s us updated for now. We haven’t really gotten into any kind of routine as yet, as there have been a lot of days sleeps (them, not me 🙁 ) which has thrown things out of whack a bit. But I’m not really in need of routine at the moment. This is like a bit of a holiday for us, so we’re just going with the flow. Because that’s what you do in north Queensland ay?

And they said it couldn’t be done!

And by “they” I mean the voices inside my head…
Before/during:

Oh man those photos make me cringe. Especially the shot of the kitchen. We were (I was) still pretty relaxed and confident at this stage. I’m not sure how, but it felt pretty damn good.
And then…

I spent a solid 8 hours cleaning this house top to bottom, inside and out. I really hope the real estate agents are impressed, or at the very least, satisfied, because I was. Especially since I did it all with a very sore foot that turned out to be due to a stress fracture I sustained a month ago. I just didn’t get around to going to the doctor until it was all finished. In return for my hard work, I got to buy a new pair of (red) shoes! It was worth it.
Another empty house. Another move. Another change. Another adventure.
Wanna come?

What’s going on?

Even though we don’t leave Townsville (moving to Ingham for 10 weeks for Hubs’ last placement as an intern) til Friday the 8th of November, the removalists are coming on Monday to put everything into storage, and we are moving in with our friends Haz, Maz, Jaz and Az (Haz and Maz are good friends of ours – Maz and Hubs are interns together – and Jaz and Az are their boys who are the same age as Chanbe and Quindy.) Got it? Confused?? Yeah, me too 🙂

But we are getting there! And my stress levels are surprisingly low, hence me feeling like I can spare 10 minutes to write a blog post! There’s still a lot to do, but I’m 100% sure it can be done in time for the moving van to arrive Monday morning. And the great thing is, Mum is still around looking after the kids, and Hubs has had most of this week off. He also has 3 days off next week so we can get the house ready for new renters to (hopefully) move in asap.

Quindy has been somewhat out of sorts (probably teething…)
But she’s still been providing us with lots of smiles and chats.

My poor little Chanbe. We keep selling the furniture while he’s in bed or out with Gran. He woke up the other morning and said to Hubs
“Ummm Dadda, where’s the couch?”
But he really is such a trooper, and not to provide TMI but the toilet training is going SO WELL. Woo!!!
There’s also been a fair bit of this:

Granted, not the best timing, but Hubs and Haz have been doing some serious male bonding over the kombi. And it makes Hubs happy, so whatareyougonnado?
Don’t you just LOVE the matchy-matchy jumpsuit and kombi!!

Oh, and there was also this:

We all came into contact with a caterpillar cocoon that was in our friend’s pram. It was pretty nasty!

The kids were a bit upset initially, but even though the rash hang around all week, it didn’t seem to bother them at all (as you can see)!
I still have a slight rash (this was taken last Sunday, after the incident on Saturday night) and it gets itchy when I get sweaty, but it’s getting better. We had NO idea what it was to start with, but then we found the cocoon. We’ll be checking from now on I think!

So yes, as well as moving, there have been the usual amount of goings-on. But like I said, my stress levels are way down on this time last year! Hubs and I took full advantage of Mum being here and went out for a delicious Japanese dinner last night. Just our luck. We’re about to leave town when we find an awesome place to eat! Can’t believe we’re already packing this house up. Where did the year go?

Oh well. On to the next adventure!!

A picnic for 2

A couple of months ago, Hubs and I were given a bottle of Moet Champagne, and have since been looking for/trying to make an opportunity to share it in celebration of Hubs finishing his PhD. The time came on Friday night when Hubs and set off for a picnic on the banks of the Ross River. Mum is staying with us at the moment, so we headed off around 5:30pm and wished Mum all the best.

We found a lovely clearing about 10-15min bike ride from our house and set ourselves up.

We got there just in time to watch the very pretty sunset.
And I made sure I had packed real glasses, because real Champagne needs real glasses.

The view of Annandale across the river, and Mt Stuart to the right.

Hubs’ answer to “give me something special!”

I was getting worried that we had gotten there too late and that we were about to run out of sunlight. I looked in the other direction to find a full moon!!!
(A bit hard to see here if you don’t know where you’re looking but it’s there!)

We had such a lovely time chatting and eating yummy things. And the Moet? Little bubbles of absolute bliss.

8 months old

Quinn is now 8 months old and I’m annoyingly wondering where the year has gone. She is still amazing us with her sleeping habits, even more-so now that when she wakes up in the morning, she is able to reach the button on her mobile and turn it on. And she will happily play there until we come in and get her. Or she’ll fall asleep again. Whichever comes first.

She seems very interested in food, but doesn’t actually eat that much. Instead, she likes to use her broccoli as a pretend microphone. She’s my girl after all!

Though, I’m not quite sure where she gets this kind of flexibility from…

And that smile. Oh that smile. All day with the smiling. That gorgeous gummy smile that melts my heart.

Life is good with our little family. Just in time for our next move! *sigh*

Hello bacon

It’s funny how you say things to your kids, and you don’t realise how you sound. Chanbe calls Quinn “baby Quinn” and I say “hello baby Quinn” in a fast, husky voice quite a lot. And Chanbe has started mimicking this. Except when he says it, it sounds more like “hello bacon.”

Quinn’s new nickname between Hubs and me? Bacon. I don’t think it will last long. Poor kid will get a complex!

Chanbe and Bacon. Ahem. Baby Quinn…

It’s not easy being green

I’ve been pretty slack with my fruit and vege intake lately, and I’ve been reading a lot about these “green smoothies” the world is into at the moment. So I thought I’d give it a go. I chose a fairly inoffensive-sounding one to start with; spinach, apple, honey, cinnamon and almond milk.

It sure looked pretty!! Unlike my face while I was drinking it.

Oooooh. It wasn’t great. It was quite bland, but at the same time, very sickly sweet. I really had to force myself to finish it, and it gurgled away in my tummy for the rest of the afternoon.

I think I’ll just stick to my salads and stir frys for my vege intake, and make sure I eat fruit when I give it to Chanbe twice a day. Though, in the interest of not judging too quickly, I may try another combination, so if you have a favourite, send it my way!! Please!?
